Microsoft Dynamics GP Dexterity Customization

Microsoft Great Plains software development, customizations, reporting. Microsoft Dexterity programming as reliable alternative to newer technologies and platforms, such as .Net, C# and VB MS Visual Studio development, eConnect, XML: Web Services.

Alba Spectrum Group is proud to announce Microsoft Great Plains Dexterity group development headcount increase. We are serving USA nation-wide from our Dexterity project management facilities in Houston, TX and Chicago, IL. Luis Leung (Alba Spectrum Texas) and Andrew Karasev (Alba Spectrum Illinois) are lead project managers for Microsoft Great Plains Dexterity customization, integration, reporting, form modification projects. Some Microsoft Dexterity technological features:

Sanscript. This is Dexterity programming language. It is actually compiled and stored in Dynamics.dic with development source code. Dex is cursor oriented DB accessing programming language, however you can also call MS SQL Server stored procedures (with SQL Select statement aggregation logic)

Alternate Forms. Technically you can modify any form you like in Dynamics.Dic original Microsoft Dynamics GP objects repository. But you might encounter future upgrade issues original forms are subject to redesign by Microsoft Dynamics subdivision without any notice

Dexterity Reports. As software developer you can create new Dexterity report, assuming that you will also provide new Dex form, where report will be getting parameters

Dexterity Alternatives. In 1990th the alternatives were VBA you could modify Greta Plains form with Modifier and include VBA scripting into your modification Dynamics.vba is the dictionary, storing your modification. In 2000th you have .Net instruments, such as eConnect with XML Web Services interface. Technically eConnect is very powerful, but comparing to Dexterity Dex has access to all Dynamics GP objects, while eConnect is secondary enabler it has access to objects, covered by eConnect development team. Future direction will probably give more options to Business Portal developer, using either eConnect or manipulating another future interface for Great Plains objects

Dexterity Advancements. These are typically related to Microsoft Great Plains Source Code Programming. Very good extension is posting server, allowing ecommerce developer automatically post GP batches in such modules as Sales Order Processing, GL, Inventory Control, POP, and others

Comparison to Other Microsoft Dynamics Products. Microsoft Dynamics ERP family include Axapta, Navision, Solomon and with some restrictions Microsoft CRM. Dexterity should be compared with similar technologies: Axapta Microsoft Dynamics AX MorphX / X++, Navision Microsoft Dynamics NAV C/SIDE

Heterogeneous. Or cross platform software development: Oracle, IBM, Sybase, Ingress: Oracle Financials/Ebusiness Suite, Lotus Notes Domino. Microsoft SQL Server technology gives you Linked Server concept, Oracle gives you similar technologies, plus from Java/J2EE you can create various JDBC/ODBC bridges or native drivers

Are Travel Agents A Thing Of The Past?

In the past, before the advent of the Internet, it has largely been too time consuming or too expensive for the average consumer to deal directly with the travel operator and personally arrange every aspect of their holiday. Travel agents became a trusted and speedy medium via which the holiday consumer could book a package that would otherwise be impossible for the independent consumer to find.

The role of the travel agent includes three key tasks:

1) Perform the function of the information broker, passing information between buyers and suppliers

2) Process transactions including printing tickets and forwarding money to suppliers

3) Advise travellers on places to go, things to do and other important information

These three tasks have been lampooned by the information and facilities provided on the Internet. Consumers have recently realised that it is possible to research their planned holiday fully online. Users can find out about specific regional information at the click of a mouse. Small local hotels, specific local attractions and regional tours can be researched with ease before a booking is considered.

In the early years of the Internet, consumers tended not to trust booking online. It was perceived that parting with credit card details over the Internet was not a secure method of payment. Users instead tended to research everything they wanted to know before hand and then contact their travel agent either face-to-face or over the phone to book their holiday package.

The Internet offers an effective means for developing a single and sustainable electronic infrastructure for information gathering and business transactions for both travellers and suppliers. It is an ideal method for people to source information on travel. It is therefore essential for travel-related Websites to offer useful, pertinent and easy-to-find information alongside a booking facility if appropriate. The Internet can be used to fully research a destination, book all aspects of the holiday including travel and communicate others who have the same ideas or have been through similar experiences. It gives travellers an excellent opportunity to compare and contrast everything on offer before they make a purchase.

The information available online is continually being reformatted and presented in a more logical, easy-to-use and read format. The volume of consumers that rely on this information to make travel-related decisions will therefore continue to rise. In addition, features and benefits of using the Internet to research and book holidays are improving and being added to all the time. For example, consumers no longer have to receive printed tickets from the travel operator. They simply print out any information that they require themselves after they receive it automatically via email.

The Internet has meant that people can now easily plan trips for themselves. This has not only opened up a greater amount of discounts available to the general public, but also given people the fun and enjoyment of planning and booking their own trips.

Are travel agents a thing of the past? The future isnt looking too rosy for them. They might perhaps retain their presence in certain specialist markets, where they can offer a unique service to individual market segments but if youre a love all, serve all travel agent youve probably seen your income levels drop significantly over the last few years.

Auto Enthusiasts Ditch Horsepower For Gas Mileage

Americas hotrod scene has been one of its most unique features and subcultures since the earlier 1900s, and most notably in the 1950s. Enthusiasts would spend countless time and money modifying, tuning, and driving their cars so that they could be the fastest, the most dangerous, and gain the most respect. A resurgence of this culture appeared when small economy cars were modified, and in the 1990s, the "Tuner" crowd was born.

Now the same enthusiasts are shifting from speed and power to efficiency and distance.

One-by-one, back yard mechanics and former racers are beginning to modify their cars for gas mileage instead of horsepower. In this game, less is more, and the person with the smallest car, the smallest engine, and the fewest horses powering their vehicle usually win. Surprisingly, its not just the fiscally responsible adults that are concerned about fuel economy, but young enthusiasts are also jumping on the bandwagon.

A quick look at websites like http://GasSavers.org will show you hundreds of people all interested in modifying their cars to make them more efficient. That is where Matt Todhunter, who at one time spent more than $12,000 to make his car fast, now goes to talk about making his car efficient.

I wanted to be unique again, says Todhunter, ...and I wanted to straighten up my finances. I knew that I'd never be able to stop modifying cars, so I figured I'd do something that was much less expensive yet still goal oriented. I still get to tinker with my car, it's ALWAYS a challenge, and I haven't gotten a speeding ticket in a long time.

Enthusiasts like Matt Todhunter are becoming more and more common, and they are even beginning to earn the respect of the hotrodders, who are often amazed by the accomplishments these fuel economy fanatics are capable of achieving.

Many of the crossovers from the racing crowd are able to apply the same principles to fuel economy. Most of the modifications are the same, says Joe Gardner, another fuel economy enthusiast. Racers and people interested in fuel economy both want lighter, smaller cars that are aerodynamic and ultra efficient. The only major difference is that we want small engines and they want big ones.

Considering the similarity in process, procedure, and mentality of modifying for speed and gas mileage, it is also no surprise that many speed enthusiasts are beginning to have two cars: one car modified for fuel economy as their daily driver, and another car modified for speed for their fun car.

While Americas obsession with speed will most likely never end, this new breed of auto enthusiast will most certainly be a driving force in their future choice of transportation. As the fuel economy movement gains more momentum, it would be no surprise at all of this became the next "big thing" for car lovers.

Matt Timion owns and operates http://www.GasSavers.org. He belongs to a number of groups dedicated to efficiency, gas mileage, and alternative energy.Phyllys Blog97517

24 hours in Kampala

I had decided to venture into the unknown Uganda. With only a sketchy knowledge of the history of the country, I had covered most of Kenya and my visits to Tanzania were becoming monotonous. Coming all the way from Mombasa, the thought of flying to Nairobi then to Entebbe offered a mixed package. On the one hand, I would arrive fast and embark on my working holiday, but on the other, I would miss invaluable experiences that my grandchildren would love to hear.

I settled for the long journey by road from Mombasa. The Mombasa to Nairobi trip was uneventful and by morning, I was on my way to the Malaba border. Through the Kenyan towns of Nakuru, Eldoret and others, which I knew like the palm of my hand, we reached the border and disembarked, passport in hand. I eyed the surroundings curiously. We completed immigration formalities and set off from Malaba through Tororo to Kampala. The Owen Falls Dam provided a spectacular view of the source of the Nile. And Kampala beckoned.

By 6:30pm, the bus arrived in Kampala. Dusk was swiftly giving way to night and I had not made any accommodation arrangements. I tried to recollect the names of some of the hotels and approached an all too willing taxi driver (here they are called special hires). I addressed him in English and mentioned the names of the various hotels that came to mind, three to be precise, but he immediately ruled out two as being upcountry! So, he took me to the one in town. It was a three-star hotel. I was caught in the horns of a dilemma. I didnt wish to appear as someone with no clue of what I wanted, yet I had this ominous feeling that the cost would subject my pockets to unwarranted, self-inflicted shock therapy. I decided to bite the bullet and approach the receptionist, who appeared rather busy with some clients. I waited. The wait seemed rather long; I know places in my home city (Mombasa) where the moment you step in you are literally lavished with service.

I boldly confronted the receptionist and politely asked her to attend to me. Turning the look of being offended by my perceived interruption, she promptly read out the room rates. The figures sounded rather odd; USh 100,000 etc. I settled for the cheapest, which was USh 100,000. Someone told me the Kenyan Shilling was quite strong regionally so I need not worry, just spend and be happy. I fished out a wad of notes and counted USh 100,000 for that night. I was shown the self-contained room with a sitting area, a TV with numerous channels, among a host of other things. I settled in the room, took a shower, started counting the money while reconverting the currency mentally to Kenya Shillings, and realized that i had spent a whopping KSh 8,000 even before dinner!

I was however determined that the little shock therapy would not ruin my first evening in Kampala. Furthermore, there was no way I could dine at the same hotel as that would choke any attempts at sampling Ugandas growing economy. I moved to Steers on Kampala Road around the CBD. There was little difficulty in following the directions to the fast food joint. They seemed more efficient than the three-star hotel.

It was Friday and I began my nocturnal tour at about 8:45pm. The city was teeming with not just vehicles, but human traffic too. I got a special hire to the happening places as the seemingly enlightened driver called them. He quickly noticed two things: that I was new in Uganda and that I was from Kenya!

The driver through the city took me to what he rated as a client-friendly pub in the heart of the city and a couple of other places after which I thought: well, i now know Kampala! I decided to go it alone and the next 24 hours were a real rollercoaster ride. I entered what I later was told was a sleazy joint (not my type) and moved on to what surprised me most a Kenyan nyama choma joint. There was a good number of Kenyans and Tusker flowed like water. It felt good to be home again. The joint-hoping craze went on, this time with a group of homeboys who seemed to disappear in what I considered dark alleys, only to re-emerge stone drunk! I was told that they had gone to re-charge the Tusker with some potent traditional gin by the name Kasese Kasese.

It was well past midnight. Back home, I would be worried about the police and robbers but here that did not bother the Friday night crowd. I met a young woman who said she was a Ugandan university student and we went to a disco. I do not remember the names of the clubs because we entered no less than three that night. The mood was real carnival with folks partying hard. I learnt a lot from the student on why people seemed so relaxed and at ease with foreigners.

The last disco we entered was playing a floor-closing number. It was 5:30 in morning. I escorted my guide to a special hire, paid for her trip back to campus wherever it was, and I took mine to my USh 100,000 hotel room. Later, some homeboys who promised to show me a more affordable place lived up to their promise. I moved to an equally decent hotel within the CBD for less than half the previous cost!

I spent the afternoon visiting the famous Makerere University, Entebbe International Airport and its environs, the National Museum, Ndere Cultural Centre, the palace of the Kabaka of Buganda and the National Parliament. I went to bed early that Saturday evening because of the long journey ahead. In any case, the bus was set to leave at 7:00am on Sunday. I arrived back from Kampala with fond memories, having spent 24 great hours in Kampala. I most likely will go back, particularly to visit my university friend whom I guess must be about to graduate.

Things To-Be Remembered On A Cruise

First time cruisers usually have loads of questions creeping in their mind about what to expect. Since it is the first time they are going to take a luxury cruise, we have given vital tips which a novice cruiser is bound to know.

-Check with your cruise line in advance of what features were included in your ticket and what amount is to be given extra. Usually, it depends upon the package which you may purchase before traveling. Generally, the base cost includes your accommodations, activities, meals, entertainment and the use of the facilities available inside the ship.

-Selection of a good cabin should be done based upon the personal choice of the cruiser and its location. The most popular ones are the midship cabins which are less noisy and tend to revert less motion sensations. While booking a cabin just ensure that it is not placed near the kitchen or any noisy area. Most cruisers look out for cabins outside which includes windows and relatively inexpensive upgrade that would help to extend your time in the cabin.

-Usually the things which you need to bring with you depend upon your personal preference. It may vary depending on the cruise line and also the ports you will visit.

In general the important things to be brought are:

a) Documents: Identification Proof of citizenship and tickets.

b) Apparel: Bring your clothing according to the weather conditions of the destination of your travel and also comfortable shipboard clothes to relax.

c) Miscellaneous: Search the Internet for all the vital items to be bought while boarding and also ask your cruise line for a checklist.

d) Medications: Always ensure that when you travel you are having a first aid kit with you in case of any emergency.

When you arrive at the ship you will have to undergo the following check process

a) Luggage: will be given to porters to place it in your cabin.

b) Documents will be verified for entry

c) The ID cards of the shipboard and the cabin keys will be given to the cruisers.

d) Finally, there will be a security screening done.

Once you are inside the ship you will be given a map to follow the directions to your cabin or in some ships there will helpers to lead them to your cabin. Cruise lines will give you and introduction about the scheduled activities and shore excursions. These introductions will have all your doubts cleared.

Online Dating Success Means Asking the Right Questions

It is possible to find the right man or woman for you on the Internet. Online dating has brought thousands of couples together who would otherwise never even have met. When you attempt to start an online friendship, it is in the hopes that it will turn into a healthy romantic relationship. Unfortunately, online dating profiles do not come with labels clearly stating whether the profile owner is emotionally balanced, or abusive, or commitment-shy or maybe even a gold-digger. Therefore, it is key that you ask your prospective date the right questions when you are still in the emailing or chatting stage. The answers that you receive will enable you to decide whether you can proceed with the online dating process with this person or whether it is best to head for the nearest exit.

The first question that you need to ask of a prospective date is, "What is the biggest mistake that you could make with online dating?".

The answer to that will likely reveal a lot to you. Such as what their attitude is towards the opposite sex and online dating in general, and what issues were really important to them in previous relationships.

Another question you should ask is, "What qualities in a man/woman does a successful relationship require?".

If they treat this a joke or avoid the answer, then it is highly likely that they have not thought about it and quite possible that a serious relationship is not really what they are after. If this is the case, then you may do well to consider looking elsewhere!

Another question that should give you insight into their online dating experiences is to ask how they are liking online dating so far. Not only will you learn more about them, but you can also learn what to do and not to do yourself.

You should also diplomatically, at the appropriate moment, ask how your prospect's previous relationship ended. If they blame their ex or take full responsibility for the breakup themselves, then that is the sign for you to move on to the next person. After all, the answer you really should be getting is that the couple simply grew apart or that they mutually agreed to end the relationship. People who lay the fault entirely at their former partner's doorstep still have unresolved issues and it is unlikely that they are ready for a new relationship, even though they may appear to want one. If they claim that they are entirely to blame for the demise of the relationship, then it is possible that you will risk getting the same results if you pursue a relationship with this person.

Keep in mind that online dating is a process that requires patience and perseverance and that you will not get instant results, despite the fact that the Internet is commonly associated with speed and ease. And do not forget that the objective of your email exchanges, chats and phone calls is to get to know each other better. Your goal is to find out what kind of person you are dealing with before you decide to meet face-to-face - the online dating moment of truth. So do not be afraid to ask questions and reply to questions as honestly as you can. It will save you time, trouble and possibly even heartache in the long run and improve your online dating experience tremendously.

North Korea Yes, You Have Our Attention

North Korea has tested a low yield nuclear device with 4% of the destructive power of the bomb that the United States dropped on Hiroshima, Japan at the end of World War II.

Some believe that the device was much larger but may have failed for technical reasons.

We dont know the truth, because the United States has not devoted the resources to know what is really going on. If you are surprised, dont be. Intelligence collection is a tricky business.

When Richard Nixon was President, you may remember that one of our ships, the USS Pueblo was brazenly attacked and hijacked in international waters in 1968, off the coast of North Korea. The 82 member crew was taken prisoner and tortured over an 11 month period before their release was negotiated.

There is such a thing as institutional memory. The senior members of the military remember the Pueblo incident well, and it still influences our behavior towards North Korea. As an aside, President Nixon gave the order to attack North Korea in retribution for the Pueblo incident. At the time the President believed a show of force was absolutely necessary to dissuade the Koreans from further provocative acts. Nixons Secretary of Defense at the time did not carry out the Presidential directive. To the end of his life, Nixon felt the biggest foreign policy error of his administration was the failure to carry out a retaliatory raid against North Korea for the Pueblo capture. The Pueblo incident has emboldened the North Koreans ever since.

Both the Clinton and Bush Administrations were aware of the Pueblo incident and its aftermath, when attempting to configure a new US policy towards North Koreas nuclear program. We have 37,000 American soldiers stationed in South Korea protecting our alliance and interests with South Korea. There is a phased troop withdrawal from the South Korea Peninsula taking place.

You have to wonder why we are willing to withdraw troops from South Korea during a time when they wish to pursue a nuclear development process. The answer is that this area of the world is loaded with dynamite, and if it blows up, you dont want to have 37,000 American troops sitting in the middle of it. North Korea has one of the largest stockpiles of artillery weapons of any army in the world. They are capable of striking Seoul, South Koreas capital from across the border.

It was recently reported that Prince Bandar, the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to the United States had a private conversation with President Bush. In the conversation the Prince told the President that the United States should withdraw US troops from South Korea. Bandar felt it was too dangerous to leave our soldiers in the middle of a possible confrontation where our OPTIONS would be limited. As Bandar put it, without troops on the border, if theres problem, its a REGIONAL PROBLEM. With troops, you could have thousands of American lives at risk, and it becomes a major WAR instantly.

So what do we do about the North Koreans announcing the ACTUAL testing of a nuclear weapon? We have to realize that words have power. We have to be careful what we say. President Bush announced the axis of evil speech several years ago. He named North Korea and Iraq as two of the three countries. It would seem that he started his anti-terrorism campaign in the wrong end of the world.

Iraq did not have weapons of mass destruction (WMD), while North Korea has gone live with them. Now we are in a bind. Our defense policy has been altered whereby we can only fight one war in one country at a time, while fighting a holding action in a second country. Prior to the Bush Administration holding power, we were postured to fight two simultaneous wars on two fronts.

The bad guys know our new policy and will take advantage of us being pinned down in Iraq to expand their own power bases. Since we have a fear of losing pilots or better yet, having a pilot shot down, we are not doing the reconnaissance flights that we would normally do over North Korea.

The best thing to do right now is to realize that if North Korea is a problem for the United States, it is a much bigger problem for Japan, China, Philippines, and South Korea. This is a regional problem in spite of our alliances, and treaty involvements. Its one thing to build and detonate a nuclear weapon, its quite another to have a long range missile delivery system. North Korea could fairly easily develop a delivery system capable of hitting the countries in its immediate vicinity.

Hitting the United States from a 9,000 mile plus distance is another story, not so easy really. Since the countries bordering North Korea have the most to lose, they should be the ones bearing the brunt of the responsibility for multi-lateral talks among the powers involved.

The real deal is that North Korea is a dictatorship that routinely starves its own people for the benefit of the small leadership that has basically enslaved the country. This leadership wants to play the cards that it can. What it now has is nuclear weapons. They will use this card to maximize whatever concessions they can from the United States and the immediate surrounding neighbors.

Are we going to cave, and make concessions to the North Koreans? Of course we are, because thats what superpowers do. Its not about appeasement, its about business, and what makes good business sense. Churchill said that People have friends, nations have interests.

It is in our interest to not divert ourselves from the issue of extricating ourselves from a tortuous situation in Iraq. It is costing us treasure, and beginning to eat at the social fabric our country as Viet Nam did a generation ago. We must put a good face on Iraq and get out. The President may not be aware of it, but he is on a short leash in Iraq. The American people are very intolerant of wars without objectives that last too long, and thats precisely where George Bush finds himself. It is highly questionable that his party will survive the mid-term elections intact. The country will embrace CHANGE, even from a Democratic party that is devoid of ideas.

Goodbye and Good Luck

Driving tips in Greece

Hiring a car and venturing into the Greek countryside is one of the best ways to see this country. Many tourists prefer this arrangement for its flexibility alone, aside from the thrill of seemingly driving backwards through the centuries when crossing from the metropolitan city centres into the rolling countryside and ancient ruins. However, it's important to drive cautiously in Greece, as the road surface can be uneven at times and the hairpin turns can easily take you by surprise.

Seatbelts are required by law for all front seat passengers and children less than 10 years old need to be secured in a child safety seat in the front section. Traffic drives on the right side of the street, and talking on a mobile phone while driving isn't allowed. The legal blood alcohol limit for all drivers in Greece is 0.5mg/ml.

Finally, cars need to be equipped with a standard emergency kit which includes a red warning triangle, a first-aid pack and a fire extinguisher. The roadside assistance hotline can be reached by dialling 104, and accidents should be reported to police by calling 100.

Athens is Greeces most congested city, with rush hour traffic nearly unbearable. As a result, theres a system in force that only permits locals to alternate driving every other day according to their license plates (odds on one day and evens on another).

Tourists are exempted from this stipulation, as are hired vehicles and those with foreign plates which are permitted to drive any day of the week. Dont be surprised to find complete city blocks of downtown Athens barricaded off during periods of exceptional congestion.

Parking is clearly marked with signposts that read in both English and Greek. Yellow dotted lines indicate an area where stopping and idling is forbidden; otherwise, most public parking zones are by permit only. Generally, you can buy a permit from a booth nearby.

Once youve had enough of Athens, youll most likely head out into the surrounding countryside. All of the inter-city roads are three-lane toll ways that levy a very light tax for their use.

Heading out of Athens, travel time to Patras is 2 hours (130 miles) and to Salonica 5 hours (300 miles). Filling up the gas tank is no trouble at all. These days, most pumps are equipped with credit card readers that allow for 24-hour service. However, its not a bad idea to carry around a little cash when youre driving in more remote areas, just in case the refuel stations dont accept credit cards.

As long as you arent ashamed to exercise a little caution, your time in Greece should be rewarding. Watch out for livestock on the road when driving across country; and on the other side of the spectrum, expect to spend significant time locked up in traffic at the urban centres. Whenever possible, plan your driving time around morning and evening rush hours. In no time at all, youll see why so many visitors choose to be their own tour guide in this unique place.

Road Manners And Safety

Good manners when driving on public roads are an aid to safety and reduce personal stress. Follow these simple hints and observations to make your driving day more pleasurable.

1. In heavy rain do not use your emergency light or High-Beam. If the emergency light, is partly obscured, it could give an other driver a turning signal thus causing an accident. The glare from the High-Beam could blind an oncoming driver. Use your normal "dipped" headlight, stay to the curb side of the road and double your normal "safe stopping" distance from the car in front of you until the road is dry.

2. Use of "flashing" High Beam as a signal to other drivers. There is NO written law about this. It is a practice that varies from country to country. In Europe, if a car flashes you from behind, he is asking you to yield (give over) so that he can pass. It is also used to tell cars in other lanes that you will yield so that they can get into the traffic stream. Example in Thailand the reverse happens. A Thai driver will warn others that he is "coming-through" so then flash you to ask you to hold back. This is because the Thais do not have Right of Way rules. Further, it is customary in most countries to wave a hand or nod the head by way of thanks for being let-in or let through the traffic. Taking your hand off the wheel, however, or breaking your attention to the traffic is dangerous, so DON'T DO IT unless you have a clear road ahead.

3. Parking your car for a short-stay, with emergency lights blinking, is not respected in Thailand or most other countries. You just cause inconvenience to others and will get a traffic fine.

4. Braking.

European drivers are trained to look into their rear mirrors before applying the foot brake. If you keep a "safe stopping distance" between you and the car in front (double on a wet road) then there should be no problem. If a driver enters your path from a side road or a motorway lane... decrease speed until a new "safe stopping distance" is achieved. Dont expect him to speed-up. He may have a slower car than yours.

5. Reduce speed in a built-up are and go even slower when passing a school or a childrens play area.

6. The yellow (Amber) traffic light.

The green light changes to red after the amber has given warning that the light will change soon. Slow down and prepare to stop on the amber light, you'll just live longer.

7. Keep to the edge of the road. Most oriental people have bad peripheral vision so tend to stay in the middle off the road. When the have to turn a corner they cut across the corner risking a collision with on-coming traffic. When turning corners in Thailand be very careful as the oncoming drivers may not see you.

Driving manners and practices are very important. It is best to let the other car go first and wait. Patience and consideration for others is absolutely essential

American Express Travel Says Mammoth, California Is Great Fun In Both Summer And Winter

American Express Vacations affirms one of the most popular vacation spots for adventure travelers is Mammoth, California. This year round resort offers travelers a wide variety of activities and entertainment. Mammoth is also surprisingly luxuriousoffering several spas, fine dinning choices and upscale lodging. Mammoth is a great choice for vacationers who wish to experience the rugged beauty of the Californian Sierras and relax in elegant resorts.

Winter in Mammoth

Wintertime is one of the most popular seasons for travelers according to American Express Travel. In fact, Mammoth made its name as a winter resort. The name Mammoth actually refers to the large ski slope, which was so large, it was referred to as Mammoth Slope. Thus, the area retained that name. The near by town is called Mammoth Lakes. The town is little more than a village, with a permanent population at about 500. However, the winter population is often ten times that. Mammoth Lakes actually has more condos than stores or restaurants. These condos can be rented on a weekly basis and range in price. The average price for a weekly condo in the winter is about $2000. Mammoth also offers several luxury resorts, including the Mammoth Inn, which is literally across the street from the most popular ski slope. For more conservative travelers, there are a number of budget inns and motels.

Summer in Mammoth

Despite the booming winter business of skiing, Mammoth is also quite popular in the summer time. There are a number of American Express Travel Deals in the early part of the summer before the crowds come in. Early June is best for weather and availability. Again, there are a number of options for accommodations in the summer, with more availability in the condos. Prices are also marginally less.

The travel attractions during the summer season are different than the winter season. Although there is no snow for the skiing masses, adventure travel enthusiast still flock to this location. From the Mammoth Inn, travelers can purchase bus tickets to be taken to Devils Post Pile National Monument for $7.00 per person. This provides access to a number of scenic areas, including the geological wonder, Devils Post Pile, the gorgeous Rainbow Falls and the peaceful Reds Meadow. The bus stops at ten different locations, and the traveler must hike from where the bus parks to see the sights. The hike to Devils Post Pile is pretty mild, and most people say its not that difficult. The hike to the top of the monument is quite strenuous, and is not recommended for the elderly or children with asthma, however. The hike to Rainbow Falls is also quite strenuous, as is the continuation to the Lower Falls. Make sure to bring at least two 12 ounce bottles if you plan to do more than Devils Post Pile. Reds Meadow is quite breathtaking, but is a longer and strenuous hike, but the view is worth it.

With so much to see and do, it is no surprise that the active traveler is attracted to Mammoth Mountain. American Express Travel offers a number of packages that include some guided hikes and tours, combined with some of the best accommodations in Mammoth Lakes. Find out why active travelers love Mammoth!

Which Credit Card Type Is Right For You?

If you're in the market for a new credit card, there is a bewildering array of cards to choose from. There are even more incentive offers, so how can you decide on the card that is best for you? Here are some of the factors to consider.

What Kind Of Payer Are You?

The most crucial question is whether you are a person who clears the credit card every month or whether you always leave a balance on the credit card. If you pay up at the end of every month, then you can go for a credit card that offers an incentive. If not, then you need to look at the annual percentage rate (APR) on the card. If you know what your typical credit card balance is, look at the illustrations given by card issuers to give a guide to how much you might have to repay over time.

Taking An Interest

Even with interest rates, you need to be careful. Although your new credit card may come with a 0% balance transfer rate, this is not the only rate to think about. Look at the rate on purchases or other transactions to see what you might be paying. And remember that any payments you make are likely to pay off the transferred balance first, while any new spending accrues interest.

Hand in hand with the interest rate goes the interest-free period. This is the delay between spending money on the credit card and being charged interest. This can vary considerably depending on the card you choose. The interest free period can be as much as 56 days. And it's how you use it that counts. If you put major spending on the credit card after the statement date, you have a month till the next statement, and then a few weeks to make the payment. This can be a good way of managing cash flow.

Look At The Fees

There are three types of fees that count with credit cards. The first is the cash withdrawal fee. Many credit card issuers charge you for withdrawing cash at an ATM. These fees can be around 2% of the transaction. The percentage is even higher when withdrawing cash abroad. If you must use the credit card, then you're better off making one large withdrawal so you don't pay the minimum fee each time.

Getting Some Cash Back

Many credit cards offer annual cashback deals which are great for people who clear their balance every month, but not so good for others. If you don't clear your balance, the interest charged will wipe out any cashback gains. There are also reward points schemes that allow cardholders to earn money from their spending and spend it again with a variety of high street and online retailers.

Paying attention to these items will help you to choose a credit card that will match your financial situation.

Essential Car Care - Part Two

Just visit our free car listingswe have hundreds of great and wise buys in used cars. Should you need finance to buy your ideal car, you can go to the Classifieds of www.ozfreeonline.com and look up the Finance section.

To keep your car looking good and performing well, OzFreeOnline offers you suggestions on checking the Coolant (Antifreeze) level as well as the engine oil level.

COOLANT (ANTIFREEZE) LEVEL

Never open the radiator of a car that has just been running. The cooling system of a car is under high pressure with fluid that is usually hotter than boiling water. Look for the cooling system reserve tank, somewhere near the radiator. It is usually translucent white so you can see the fluid level without opening it. (Do not confuse it with the windshield washer tank). The reserve tank will have two marks on the side of it. FULL HOT and FULL COLD. If the level frequently goes below full cold after adding fluid, you probably have a leak, which should be checked as soon as possible. Today's engines are much more susceptible to damage from overheating, so do not neglect this important system.

ENGINE OIL LEVEL

An engine cannot run without oil; oil is what prevents serious engine damage or total destruction! To check the oil level, make sure that the engine is turned off, then find the engine oil dipstick and remove it. With a paper towel or rag, wipe off the end of the stick and notice the markings on it. You will usually see a mark for Full and another mark for Add.

Check your owners manual to be sure. Push the stick back into the tube until it sets, then immediately pull it out to see the oil level. You should not add oil unless the level is below the Add mark and NEVER add oil to bring the level above the Full mark. Your main concern with this check is that oil consumption is not rapidly increasing. If it is, take your car to a repair shop as soon as possible and have it checked out. It is acceptable for the oil to be dark as long as you change it at the recommended intervals. However, it should never be foamy and should never have a strong petrol smell. If either of these conditions exists, have it checked out soon.

We will bring you more tips next week. In the meantime remember the best source to buy a used car today is from the OzFreeOnline.com Cars Section. To sell your car, you can use our free car listings We promise: it costs you nothing.

More Gas Saving Tips

With the prices of gasoline going higher and higher, its not unusual for all of us to search out some fuel saving techniques most of the ones I have found are simple for any one to apply to their every day driving.

1. Always try to drive the speed limit. Did you know that for every 5 mph you travel over 60 mph, you are decreasing your fuel economy by 6%.

2. Try not to let your car sit idling for any length of time. According to Fueleconomy.gov the average driver will waste 17% of its gas by simply sitting in idle. So this means for every 10 gallons you purchase, 1.7 gallons are used to keep the engine running while you sit in park.

3. Keep your sunroof or windows closed. I really enjoy the sunroof on my car and it is alright to have it open if you are taking a leisurely drive around town and only traveling about 25 mph because the amount of drag will not be noticeable to your fuel consumption. But the amount of drag placed on your vehicle at highway speeds (55 mph or more), an open sunroof may reduce your fuel economy by 5%. Same thing will apply to your windows being open but they do not have quite as much impact as the sunroof. Avoid buying cars with spoilers on them or having one put on your car simply to trick it out. The basic function of a spoiler is to add downforce to your car to help improve handling at high speeds, so naturally having a spoiler will hurt your fuel economy. This also applies to roof racks and any type of carrier on the top of your car.

4. Remove any excess weight you have on your vehicle. Avoid keeping unnecessary items in your vehicle, especially heavy ones. An extra 100 pounds in your vehicle could reduce your MPG by up to 2%. The reduction is based on the percentage of extra weight relative to the vehicle's weight and affects smaller vehicles more than larger ones.

5. When highway driving try to use your cruise control. Using cruise control on the highway helps you maintain a constant speed and, in most cases, will save on your fuel consumption.

6. When driving up hill accelerate before you reach the incline. Think ahead when approaching hills. If you accelerate, do it before you reach the hill, not while you're on it. This will also increase your mpg.

7. Avoid driving on gravel or rough roads if at all possible. Dirt or gravel roads can rob you of up to 30% of your gas mileage.

8. Try to stay away from curving or winding roads. Compare traveling distance differences - remember that corners, curves and lane jumping require extra gas. The shortest distance between two points is always straight

9. Try to park your car so you can leave in a forward position. Avoiding reverse gear maneuvers will save on your fuel mileage.

10. There are many good fuel additives out there and we have done extensive research on them to view a list of our findings

Clues for Dating Vintage Clothing

With celebrities such as Barbara Streisand, Sarah Jessica Parker, Winona Ryder, Sharon Stone, Drew Barrymore and Michael Richards flaunting their trendy wardrobes vintage fashions have become very popular. Whether you want to establish a collection of clothes from bygone eras or you would just like a few unique pieces to add oomph to your wardrobe, it is interesting to know the history of your piece.

How do you know if the 1930s silk charmuese nightgown advertised on Ebay is really from the 1930s era? Now if you absolutely love the colour or style well maybe the age does not matter. If you do not want to pay a premium for something that is not as advertised, it is important to learn a few pointers.

There are numerous ways to date garments. You can shop with confidence when you know what clues to watch for.

For instance - How are the seams finished? Are they pinked, Frenched or serged? Sergers and overlock machines have been around since the 1950s, but were not in homes until around 1964. Inspecting the seams of custom-made items may not tell you for sure when it was made, but it can let you know for sure when it wasnt made.

Examination of the seams on store bought, mass produced clothing of the 1950s, shows that most were pinked. Overcast seams, welted seams or Frenched seams were usually only found on very expensive garments. Overlock seams did start showing up in lingerie during the 1950s. By the early 1960s all lingerie had overlocked seams, and the use of the overlock stitch was beginning to appear in other garments made of fabric that would frey easily.

A 1965 catalogue ad mentions that a garment featured overlocked seams, while another ad boasts overlock seams in 1960s lingerie. The term is not a selling point in fashions of today as most attire has overlocked or serged seams.

Another indication of age is the use of the zipper. Patented in 1893 the first zipper was called a clasp locker. These zippers were not practical. Although a zipper was developed in 1913 with interlocking teeth, it was slow to catch on.

Zippers were first put in childrens clothing in the 1930s and replaced the button fly in mens trousers around 1937. There were a few zippers in women's clothing of the 1940's, but most garments still possessed button fasteners, until the 1950s when they finally became popular.

Catalogues from the mid 1960s boast about the wonders of nylon zippers. Nylon zippers were thought to be less bulky, easier to hide and more comfortable than the old metal zippers.

Keep in mind that the presence or absence of a zipper and the type of zipper provides clues to the age of the garment but that other factors still need consideration. As zippers can be replaced, metal zippers are not a guarantee that the item was manufactured before 1960. Similarly, a vintage garment may have had a broken zipper replaced by a nylon one.

These are just a couple of points to consider when identifying vintage clothing. Other factors to take into account are fabrics, styles and labels.

Use a bit of logic with what you learn to decide if the item is desirable.

The 200 year old festival includes events such as parades, beer tents, music features, feasts of authentic German cuisine, and exhibits.

City of Berlin

How To Have An Enjoyable Boating Vacation

A boating vacation should be a vacation that everyone will have fun at. If you are taking the kids you need to make sure that they don't get bored and that you have a nice and relaxing time as well. This may sound hard to do but when you are going on a boating vacation it is actually quite easy. There are so many different things to do on your boating vacation that everyone will be able to get what they need out of their vacation with ease.

The first thing that you need to do is decide what kind of boating vacation you want to take. There are a few different kinds. You can rent a charter boat for your boating vacation for one. This kind of boating vacation will come with a boat and a crew and will provide you with all of the fun in the sun that you need for your boating holiday.

When you go on this kind of boating vacation you will be able to get the best fishing, sight seeing and diving just to name a few of the fun things that you can do on your boating holiday. And when you choose to rent a boat with a crew they will be able to take you to all of the top places for diving and sightseeing because they know them. It is like having on board tour guides! This makes for a fun and easy boating vacation that everyone will talk about forever.

Another popular form of boating vacation is to hire a boat and take you and your family out alone. This is something that is only for people who know how to drive a boat and who have the experience to back them up. If you have shown the boating company that you know what you are doing and that you will be able to take care of the boat on the water then they will rent you the boat for the boating vacation without a crew. Your family will in essence become this crew.

This is a great boating vacation because it gives you and your family time away from the hustle and bustle of work and friends, time that you can spend together bonding. Your whole family can get to know one another again and enjoy each others company without any distractions at all. It is shocking to realize how different everyone can feel after this type of boating holiday. The world feels so much better when you know you can truly get away from it all from time to time on a boating holiday.

This kind of boating vacation is also going to save you an extraordinary amount of money. You will find that the price of renting a boat with no crew for this kind of boating vacation is a fraction of the price you would pay for it to have a crew on board. This is the most fantastic option when it comes to your boating holiday.

Top7 Car Buying Tips

While we all like to think we wont be conned when buying a used car, thousands of people are every single year. The majority of these people have bought their used car from one of the popular free ads papers and have known very little - if anything - about what to look for in a quality car. If you fall into this category, then simply follow the top seven car buying tips outlined below.

First of all, look out for signs that the car may have been involved in a serious accident. Points to watch out for include slight gaps between the body panels and car doors that drop or that fit badly on their hinges.

Always give the gearbox and clutch a through test. To do this, make sure that you have the engine running then press down on the clutch. If there is any change in the sound of the engine then this could indicate the bearings are worn.

The gearstick should move smoothly without any crunching sound.

Make sure the brakes are in top order by breaking as firmly as you can without the car skidding.

When you start up the car make sure the exhaust fumes are white - any other colour could indicate problems.

Check the panels to make sure there are no lose screws. If there are this could indicate that the odometer has been tampered with and the car has done more mileage than it states.

Finally, always go over the cars paperwork thoroughly to make sure the history is correct. Generally the more history a car has then the better. Or invest in a vehicle data check, a service which can instantly check your proposed new cars history, including whether it has ever been stolen or involved in an accident or whether it has any outstanding finance on it etc.

The service does not cost a lot and could save you a fortune - as well as any headaches in the future.

Tips on Buying Your Next Car

When shopping for a car, new or used, start by asking yourself a few questions:

How many miles will you be putting on the car weekly?
What are the mpg ratings for the cars you are considering?
How will the car primarily be usedtaking kids to soccer, commuting to work?
What features do you need/want (air conditioning, CD player, anti-lock brakes)?
How large of a car loan can you afford?
How much of a monthly payment can you handle?
How much do you have for a down payment (cash or trade-in)?

Check the online car sites to find out the current pricing, safety records and other information on the makes and models you are interested in buying.

Get your financing first

Getting your auto loan first lets you know how much money you have to work with and sets a realistic focus on the car buying process. Another benefit of having financing in hand before visiting the dealership is that it will keep you out of their high-pressure finance departments.

The Annual Percentage Rate (APR) you will be charged on your car loan will depend on your credit history and FICO score. Other variables include current interest rates, market conditions and any special financial promotions being offered by dealers or manufacturers on the car you are buying.

The difference between the interest rate on a new car loan and a used car loan doesnt vary that much because used vehicles dont depreciate as quickly as newer models. This makes them better short-term collateral for the lender.

A good place to get a free car loan quote is http://www.fastcarfinance.com. Their no-obligation online application will let you now how much you are qualified to borrow.

If you are buying new

Buying new gives you a new-car warranty that lasts for years. It also gives you more control over optional features, and, if you buy the right vehicle, it will have greater resale value down the road.

Shop around to get the best possible price by comparing models and prices in ads and at dealer showrooms. You also may want to contact car-buying services and broker-buying services to make comparisons. Consider ordering your new car if you do not see what you want on the lot.

Negotiate on price. Dealers may be willing to bargain on their profit margin, often between 10 and 20 percent. Usually, this is the difference between the manufacturers suggested retail price (MSRP) and the invoice price.

If you are buying used

A good used car should last longer than your loan. According to The U.S. Department of Transportation, the average life span of a vehicle is 13 years, with final mileage around 145,000.

If youre shopping for a used car at a dealership, ask for a conditioning report in addition to having your own mechanic check it out. You can also order the vehicles history report from an online service like CarFax or AutoCheck.

If you are buying from a private party, you will want to ask:
How long have you owned the vehicle?
Has the vehicle been in an accident or repainted?
When are the next state inspection and emissions tests due?
How often has the oil and filter been changed?
Why are you selling the vehicle?

Do You Know Where The Purse Comes From?

The birth of purses dates very far back. Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics illustrate pouches that were carried on the waist, which means that even back then they had a need to carry and keep track of small things.

The first time purses are talked about in literature is in the 14th century. At that time, purses were attached to the girdles, which were attached to the waist. These purses had embroidery and jewels on them, which showed status. If your purse was more decorated you were richer. Handbags became more practical during the 16th century. Everyday materials were used to make them and they were made larger so that travelers could use them. Men and women used the handbags in the 17h century if they were fashionable people.

The purses were smaller and the shapes of them became more unique. They began to stitch artwork on the purses during this time frame. During the 18th century the fashionable women began to carry the small handbags that matched their outfits because the larger purses would ruin the look of their clothing. The handbags were called reticules. The magazines all told the ladies different ways that they should be carrying their reticule. Rouge, face powder, a fan, smelling salts, visiting cards, a card case, and a scent bottle are what were typically found in a reticule at this time.

Then in the 1900s the men would carry hand-held luggage, which lead to the design for womens bags. It was at this point that they began to make separate pockets or compartments for glasses, makeup and the fans. Matching handbags were no longer a necessity by the 1920s. Plastic and wood on purses came about because of the war effort in the 1940s. Metal, zippers, mirrors and leather were hard to come by, so they had to come up with different materials for the purses.

Then the handbag designers really came about around the 1950s. The handbag designers of the 50s set the tone for our purses and handbags of today.

Doing The Business With A Business Credit Card

Most people are used to making personal purchases with a credit card. It can help with money management and is useful for situations where you haven't got quite enough cash in hand. These are some of the same reasons why business owners should consider having credit cards for their businesses.

A business credit card can speed up the process of doing business. This applies to both online and offline transactions. It's a good way of paying for company purchases or making payments quickly.

Why Have A Business Credit Card?

Business credit card deals may be better than those available for personal credit cards. For example, there may be lower annual percentage rates (APRs), waiver of annual fees, higher credit limits and other incentives. Business credit cards also offer the same incentives as personal credit cards, such as balance transfer deals and 0% interest periods. And if you don't like the deal offered, it's always possible to negotiate.

Expense Tracking

Business credit cards are a good way of tracking expenses. This applies to both company expenses and the expenses incurred by employees on the company's behalf. They are also a good way of improving cash flow as business owners can pay for something today and have a grace period of up to 56 days before having to settle the bill.

Help For Employees

Employees can use business credit cards when travelling on company business to pay for flights and other travel, accommodation, eating out and entertaining. This means employees don't have to worry about finding money and being reimbursed. It also means that businesses can keep track of company expenses through itemised credit card statements. Businesses usually get a monthly statement where all such transactions are listed.

Choosing A Business Credit Card

When choosing a business credit card, it is best to pay attention to:

- The APR
- The credit limit
- The grace period
- Repayment options
- Annual fees
- Application fees
- Cash withdrawal fees

Since companies get monthly statements, they have to spend less time on administration. There's no longer any need to work out and check employees' expense claims, though some businesses may prefer to have that process as a backup.

Other Business Card Options

Business owners can also choose to have a business debit card. This means they can only spend what is in the business account. Another option is a business charge card. There is usually an annual fee for this and the balance has to be settled in full each month. Neither of these options is as flexible as a business credit card.

Some small businesses may start by financing their business with a personal credit card. However, this makes it more difficult to separate personal and business expenses. In addition, you will be personally liable for any spending on the personal credit card. A better option is to get a business bank loan or overdraft. This will offer better interest rates and will not endanger personal finances.
